Making Smart Choices About Promotional Items
If you are in charge of choosing and purchasing promotional items for your company or business, you may feel somewhat overwhelmed. While it may not be the most important job in the company, it is a pretty huge task that can make a large difference in the success of the business. There are some steps you can take to make sure that you are purchasing promotional products that will effectively attract customers to your business.
First, make sure you know what the company’s budget is. If you do not have a lot of money to spend, then stay away from higher end promotional items. Know that you can spend a small amount of money, and still promote your business successfully.
Second, consider who you are going to send these products to. Are you going to send them to people who are already customers that you wish to keep coming back to your business? Or are you sending them to people who are not currently your customer? If you are sending them to people who are not currently using your business, then send them introductory information letting them know basic information about your company. Otherwise, you can send existing customers new information about you company, i.e. new products or services you are offering.
Next, whatever promotional items you are sending out, make sure that they have some practical use, particularly if you are on a budget. Certainly, promotional products that are “outside the box” can gain you some attention. However, they are not worth the money if they quickly get thrown in the trash can.
It is true that with promotional items, sometimes it is best just to stick with the classic suspects. Some great possibilities include: pens, notebooks, and calendars. Slightly more expensive items could include: coffee cups, mouse pads, and baseball caps.
Promotional products that are practical and well-made can be passed from person to person easily. This practice can result in your business receiving new customers from places that you did not expect. If someone borrows a pen, for example, and then leaves the pen somewhere else, whoever picks it up will at the very least be exposed to your business.
When you are faced with the prospect of choosing promotional products for your company, you may dread the task at hand. However, using some common sense and thinking about your possible audience can go a long way toward choosing a product that will attract and keep customers for your business.
